HFE usually refers to ether compounds containing only four elements: carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, and fluorine. Its ozone depletion potential (ODP) is zero, global warming potential (GWP) is low, and atmospheric residence time is short, making it a new and ideal substitute for chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs).
